Brief biography

William Ovid Nicodemus / Woodhurst was born at Buchanan, Berrien Co. in Michigan on November 14th 1932 to Letha Wave Platz, the second wife of Graydon Richard Woodhurst. His biological father was Paul Nicodemus to whom Letha had been briefly married.

The US 1940 Census finds him at age "8" living or staying with his grandparents John E. and Susan Adele (nee Shreve) Platz in Buchanan.

He married Linda (nee) Patterson at South Bend, Indiana on December 18th 1955 [INGenWeb: Marriages for St. Joseph Co., Indiana: Book 208, Page 220, License Date 1955/12/16].

He died at South Bend after a sudden illness in February 1978, aged only "45". His death certificate states that he died on February 21st 1978 at the South Bend Memorial Hospital. He had been residing at 54276 Terrace Lane and working for the Bendix [Aviation] Corporation. The informant was his wife Linda and the cause of death was certified as acute myocardial infarction.

The American Social Security Death Index states that his SSN was 304-30-6449.

William O. Woodhurst, 45, of 54276 Terrace Lane, died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday. In Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He had been employed 28 years by the Bendix Corp. He was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Buchanan and lived here all his life. On Dec. 18, 1955, in South Bend, he married Linda Patterson, who survives, along with four, daughters, Mrs. Patti Oldman of South Bend, Susan L. of Mishawaka, Debra A. and Ann M., both at home; a son, Timothy W. of South Bend; a grandchild; and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Woodhurst of Lantana, Fla. Services will be. at 11a.m. Friday in Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren, Rev. Gary Dill, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Welsheimer North Chapel, 52803 U.S. 31 N. He was a charter member of Prince of Peace Church; a member of the Clay Township Lions Club; a second vice commander of Post 1167, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a former scoutmaster of Troop 477, Boy Scouts of America, a vigil member of the Order of the Red Arrow of the Boy Scouts, and a veteran of the Korean War. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prince of Peace Church building fund.
