Russell John Woodhurst was born to John Elmer Woodhurst and his wife Anna Elizabeth (nee Morris) on January 25th 1912 in the city of Richmond, Wayne Co., Indiana. His birth certificate gives the family's address as 105, North 19th Street in Richmond.
The US 1920 Census finds him aged "7" living with his parents in Richmond.
The US 1930 Census finds him aged "18" living with his parents in Denver, Colorado and occupied as a clerk in an auto store.
He married Ruth Verna (nee) Rife on November 23rd 1938.
Ruth Verna was born in Aurora, Colorado on February 15th 1919 to parents David E. Rife and Nellie Ruby Harrison, who had married in June 1916. Nellie was born in Carbon township, Clay Co., Indiana on February 13th 1883. David died on August 4th 1952 and Nellie on July 4th 1956; both are buried at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver. Besides Ruth Verna, they produced another daughter Helen Rife - formerly a resident of Anchorage, Alaska and subsequently of Navarre, Florida - who married Cliff Niewendorp and undertook extensive research and publication of Harrison genealogy.
The US 1940 Census finds Russell and Ruth living in South Sherman Street; he was occupied as a stock clerk for a wholesale auto parts company.
His Draft Registration Card, issued in about 1940, gives his address as 2421 South Bannock Street and his employer as Auto Equipment Co.
He enlisted in the US Navy on November 23rd 1942 and was discharged on November 15th 1945.
In 1977 Russell and Ruth suffered the tragedy of their only child being murdered at age 29 by an armed robber.
Russell died in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 18th 1992 and was buried at the Murray City Cemetery on June 23rd in grave 16-064-8. His obituary was published in The Salt Lake Tribune on June 22nd 1992. His Social Security Number was 521-09-1957, issued in Colorado.
His widow Ruth Verna died in Salt Lake City on January 31st 1994 and was buried next to him on February 4th in grave 16-064-7. Her obituary was published in The Deseret News on February 3rd 1994. Her Social Security Number was 521-16-5998, issued in Colorado.
