Robert Stanford (3) Woodhurst was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1947 to parents Robert Stanford (2) Woodhurst and his wife Dorothy Ann Carwile.
He grew up in Augusta, Georgia where he graduated from Georgia Tech. He married in Augusta to Mary Catherine Doris.
His children as listed below were named in an obituary, published in The Augusta Chronicle on May 16th 2001, of his wife's father Bernard Joseph Doris (a jeweler) who had died on May 15th.
He became a principal in the Woodhurst Partnership, the major architectural practice in Augusta founded by his father, and was a key participant in the activities of the Augusta Canal Authority. In 1992 his position as a leading practitioner in the architectural profession was recognized by his becoming a member of the AIA College of Fellows. With his father he designed many buildings in Augusta including the First Baptist Church, the Bell Auditorium (redesigned), the Covenant Presbyterian, the Lake Olmsted Stadium, additions to the Augusta National and the John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School.
