Matthew (1) Woodhurst was christened on May 28th 1811 to parents Andrew (4) Woodhurst and his wife Ann [Fairlight Parish Register].
The 1841 Census finds him at age "30" living in Pall Mall, St. James in London, evidently in the household of an army officer named Robinson. He was occupied as a servant.
Later in 1841 he married Jane Young [Marriage Index: St. Geo.Han.Sq. 1 46, 1841 (June)]. She was born around 1803-04 in Gisburn, Yorkshire (now Lancashire).
The 1851 Census finds him living with Jane at 24, Carnaby Street in St. James Westminster, where he was occupied as a licenced victualler. There were no children with them.
Matthew (1) may have died as Matthew "Woodhouse" in 1857 [Death Index: London City 1c 68, 1857 (March)].
