Harry (2) Woodhurst was born in 1862 to parents Edwin Woodhurst and his partner Ann (nee) Wilson. His birth certificate [Birth Index: Hackney 1b 327, 1862 (Sept)] states that he was born on July 14th 1862 at his parents' address 5, Union Street, Stoke Newington Road in West Hackney. His mother is named as "Ann Woodhurst formerly Wilson". His father Edwin, described as a brick-maker, was the informant. Edwin and Ann were not married to each other at this time, although they did marry later on, in 1867. No Woodhursts were living in Union Street at the time of the 1861 Census.
The 1871 Census finds him as an inmate of the Whitechapel Union's Industrial School located on a site formerly known as Jackass Field in Forest Lane, Forest Gate in West Ham. It had been built during 1852-54 by the Whitechapel Union, and in 1869 was sold to the newly-formed Forest Gate School District. Also in the school with him was his sister Frances (2).
He may be the "Henry" Woodhurst whom the 1881 Census finds as an ordinary seaman living on the vessel "Diederich" at Poole St. James in Dorset. This Henry was cited as aged 18 and born in London, and there is no candidate for him other than Harry (2) among the Woodhurst birth references at the GRO.
Nothing more is currently known of him. He was probably the Henry Woodhurst who died at Hull in 1904 with age cited as "35" [Death Index: Hull 9d 222, 1904 (Sept)].
