George William (2) Woodhurst was born in South Carolina - almost certainly in Abbeville County - around 1861-62 to parents George William (1) Woodhurst and his wife Isabelle Norrell.
The US 1870 Census finds him at age 8 living with his widowed mother at No. 328, Greenwood Township in Abbeville County.
A relative reports the following: for reasons unknown, George William (2) lived for many years in Texas in his adult life under the assumed surname 'Woodruff'; this fact emerges from court documents relating to the four-year-long determination of probate following his intestate death on February 5th 1909 in Lampasas County, Texas [Probate File 455, February 1913].
The reason why he changed his identity is unknown. He may have done it in the late 1870s, as he appears not to be among the persons named Woodhurst recorded in the US 1880 Census.
Nothing more is currently known of him.
