Gertrude Mary Woodhurst was born in 1883 to parents Richard William (3) Woodhurst and his first wife Mary Ann Ames. Her birth certificate [Birth Index: Hackney 1b 503, 1883 (Sept)] states that she was born on May 29th 1883 at her parents' address 16, Blanchard Road in Hackney. Her father was occupied as a carman and her mother was the informant.
After her parents had separated, she and her older sister Mabel Frances probably remained with their mother or were raised by some other family. Intense efforts to find out what happened to these two girls have so far yielded no results.
