Eleanor Ruth Woodhurst was born around 1900 at Abbeville, SC to parents James Robert Woodhurst and his wife Frances C. Keown. An unattributed IGI ancestral file cites her birthdate as October 21st 1900.
The US 1910 Census finds her at age "9" living with her parents in Abbeville township.
She married Lewis Eugene Starnes, known familiarly as "Luke".
The US 1930 Census finds her living with her husband and daughter Ella in Abbeville, in the household of her widowed sister Frances Lucia. Luke was employed as a book-keeper in a drug store.
Obituaries state that she was a member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church and for some years taught Intermediate Sunday School Class for girls. From 1960 to 1975 she owned and operated the McMurry Drug Store, and from 1978 to 1980 worked for Abbeville County Council on Aging. She was listed in the 1974 Who's Who for South Carolina.
She died aged 100 at Morningside in Greenwood on June 25th 2001 and was buried at the Long Cane Cemetery on June 28th. Her obituaries were published in 2001 by The Greenwood News and The Index Journal.
