Introductory Notes

Among the responsibilities of the Overseers of Eastling Parish was the provision of Poor Relief, financed in part through funds levied from the local parishioners. Relief payments might be made directly to the intended recipients, or via the Overseers of other parishes in which Eastling-derived people were residing. The transcription below shows disbursements in respect of the family of John (3) Woodhurst during the period 1821-1835, extracted from Eastling's Receipts and Disbursements Book for 1807-1843 [CCA: Film U3/208/1/1].

Abbreviations in the original include: "Rel'd." = Relieved; "Do." = ditto; "fm." = from; "pr." = per.

The transcription was kindly undertaken by Mr. Raymond Godfrey of Faversham Historical Research Services.
