Elizabeth (5) Woodhurst was born to parents John (6) Woodhurst and his wife Ann Susan Russell. She was christened on January 10th 1830 at Milton-next-Sittingbourne, Kent [Parish Register Baptisms 1813-33 in CCA: Piece P253/1/6]. The record spells her father's surname as Wooders and gives his occupation as brick-maker.
In 1837 she emigrated with her parents on the ship Wellington to America, arriving at New York on May 15th 1837.
The US 1840 Census finds her living with her parents in Connecticut in Windsor township, Hartford County.
The US 1850 Census finds her living with her parents in Oxford township, Butler County in Ohio. The record gives her age as 20 and her birthplace as England.
According to the IGI she married John Miller in Butler County on March 16th 1854 [IGI: Batch M514511].
The US 1860 Census finds her named as "Elizabeth Woodhurst" in the household of her parents in Wayne township, Butler County in Ohio. The record appears to give her age as 20 - probably an unclear rendition of 29 or a misrecording of 30 - and her birthplace as (incorrectly) Connecticut. It seems likely that she was merely visiting her parents and that they omitted to cite her married surname.
The US 1880 Census finds her living with her husband in Richmond township, Wayne County in Indiana. The record understates her age as "46" but correctly gives England as the birthplace of her and her parents. It gives Rhode Island as the birthplace of her husband John and his parents, and describes him as a blacksmith aged "54".
Nothing more is currently known of her.
