Douglas George Woodhurst was born on November 18th 1909 at Bingham Canyon, Salt Lake Co., Utah to parents Charles Grant Woodhurst and his wife Evelyn ("Iva") Marie (nee) Fry. His birth certificate states that his parents were residing at 5, Woodrings Flat in Bingham Canyon and that his father was a civil engineer aged "22". The birth was stated to have taken place at 12.30a.m. on November "17th" [but probably intended as the 18th], the certificate being signed by the midwife on the 18th.
The 1910 Census finds him aged "5 months" living with his parents in Main Street, Bingham Canyon.
The 1920 Census finds him aged "10" living with his parents in Hawthorne Avenue, Salt Lake City.
The 1930 Census finds him aged "19" living with his parents in Clarkson Street, Denver in Colorado and occupied as a helper in a garage.
By 1933 the family had moved to Kansas City in Missouri and it was there that his SSN 486-01-6726 was issued.
He married Edith Pauline (nee) Lindholm on March 12th 1935 at Olathe township in Johnson Co., Kansas.
Edith Pauline was born at Fort Collins, Colorado on November 8th 1906 to parents Emil Cristoffer Lindholm and his wife Caroline (nee Johnson). She had a sister Mabel born on August 5th 1908 who married Clifton Dallas Burkhead on August 27th 1928; he died on October 12th 1980 and Mabel died on August 29th 1995.
The US 1940 Census finds them living at 2004, Esterly Avenue (next door to Edith's parents) in Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., Kansas where Douglas was occupied as a clerk in a drug store and Edith as a cake icer in a bakery. Her father Emil was a watchman for a bank.
By the 1990s they were living at 13401, Spring Street in Grandview, Jackson Co., Missouri. Douglas George died on February 16th 1992 at the Research Belton Hospital in Belton township, Cass Co., Missouri. His funeral took place on February 19th at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Grandview and he was buried the same day at the Leavenworth National Cemetery (Plot 46 16 6) about 45 miles away in Leavenworth, Kansas.
His obituary was published on February 18th 1992 in The Kansas City Star. It records that he had worked as a quality assurance inspector for the Benson Manufacturing Company until his retirement, and that he had been an Army veteran of World War II. Edith Pauline had also been a sergeant in the US Army. No mention is made of their having had any children.
His widow Edith Pauline died on February 25th 1998 in the Life Care Center at Grandview. Her funeral took place on March 2nd at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church there and she was buried the same day at the same Leavenworth cemetery. Her SSN, also issued in Missouri, was 495-03-1634. Like her husband, she had last resided in Grandview.
