David John Woodhurst was born to parents Russell John Woodhurst and his wife Ruth Verna (nee) Rife on June 12th 1947 at Denver, Colorado [IGI: Batch H002051].
He married in the city of Bountiful, Utah to Connie LaDean (nee) Kimber on August 4th 1969 and by her produced two sons.
He served in the Vietnam war.
David was murdered at age 29 on May 31st 1977. Working as a postman in Sandy, Salt Lake City, he had entered the premises of a jeweler which at that moment was being robbed by a career criminal - and previous murderer - Viva Leroy Nash and an accomplice. Nash shot David in the back and the two robbers fled the scene, taking a lot of jewelry with them. Nash was convicted and imprisoned for this act but subsequently escaped and commited further crimes including another murder. He was captured, again convicted and re-imprisoned under sentence of death. He became one of the longest-serving prisoners in the US, spending nearly 80 years behind bars and dying in 2010 aged 94.
David was buried at the Bountiful Memorial Park in Davis Co., Utah.
Connie subsequently remarried to Charles van Valkenburg.
