Constance Lilian Woodhurst was born in Islington, London on March 25th 1906 to parents Richard (1) Woodhurst and his wife Lilian Emma (nee) Garner. The birth certificate [Birth Index: Islington 1b 155, 1906 (June)] states that she was born on March 25th 1906 at her parents' home 15, Warrender Road, a property believed to have been primarily the home of Richard (1)'s sister Maude Edith. Richard (1) was the informant and gave his occupation as commercial clerk.
She was baptised on June 17th 1906 at All Saints in Tufnell Park, the register describing her father as a clerk residing at 15, Warrender Road.
In 1929 she was living in the Prince of Wales's General Hospital in Tottenham, presumably in the Nurses Home there [Haringey Electoral Register, 1929]. She had begun her training there as a nurse in 1927. She qualified as a registered nurse by examination on November 28th 1930 [Register of Nurses, Royal College of Nursing, London].
She married in 1931 to Norman Harry Arthur Stevens [Marriage Index: W. Ham 4a 1048, 1931 (Sept)]. Norman was born in 1904 [Birth Index: W. Ham 4a 520, 1904 (Sept)].
In 1934 they were living at 48, Cleveland Park Crescent in Walthamstow and Constance was still on the Register of Nurses, now listed by her Stevens surname. By 1937 they were living at 49, Mount Echo Avenue in North Chingford and were still at this address in 1946, according to her continuing listing in the Register of Nurses.
By the end of 1936 they had produced just the children listed below, and no others by the end of 1941.
She died in Norfolk in early 1994 [Death Index: North Walsham SM18B 6382 19, 1994 (January)].
Ruth married in 1954 to Paul S Brandon [Marriage Index: Essex SW 5a 727, 1954 (Sept)]. They produced a son Hugh P Brandon in 1958 [Birth Index: Essex SW 5a 207, 1958 (March)]. Paul died in 1988 [Death Index: North Walsham 10 1687, 1988 (October)].
John died aged "32" in 1968 [Death Index: Norwich 4b 820, 1968 (Dec)].
