Constance Woodhouse / Woodhurst was born around 1820 to parents John (10) Woodhurst and his wife Sarah (nee) Morley. She was christened at Brabourne, Kent on August 20th 1820 [IGI: Batch I006859 - indexed as "Woodhouse".
The 1841 Census finds her at (rounded) age "20" and occupied as a female servant, living in Smeeth in Kent at an address that was not specified but which appeared to be located between Smeeth Rectory and Evegate Mills. She was in the household of an Ann Scott who was living on her own means. Ann may have been connected with Scott's Hall in Smeeth where John (10) and Sarah were living at that time.
The 1851 Census finds her - with surname "Woodhouse" - at age "31" and occupied as a housemaid living at West Cliff, Folkestone in Kent, again in the household of Ann Scott who was now described as a landed proprietor. Also living there was a cook named Margaret Cook who had been with them in 1841.
In 1856 Constance married a somewhat older man named John Tappenden [Marriage Index: E. Ashford 2a 781, 1856 (Sept)].
The 1861 Census finds her at age "50" living with John and their daughter Emma Constance aged "3" in Ashford Road, Willesborough in Kent. She was described as John's wife and was occupied as a housekeeper. John, aged "48" with birthplace Kennington in Kent, was occupied as a footman.
She died aged "79" around early 1900 [Death Index: Elham 2a 887, 1900 (March)].
Emma Constance married George Baker in 1887 [Marriage Index: W. Ashford 2a 877, 1887 (March)]. The 1891 Census finds her at age "34" visiting her aunt Ann (5) in Ashford.
