Charles William John Woodhurst was born in Aston on January 26th 1918 to parents Christopher William Woodhurst and his wife Annie Sarah Jane (nee) Jones [Birth Index: Aston 6d 867, 1918 (March)].
He was christened at Aston on February 13th 1918. The register describes Charles as a mechanic and give the family's address as 35, Priory Road.
The National Register for England and Wales 1939 finds him living with his father, step-mother and siblings at 13, Glendon Road in Birmingham and occupied in some form of engineering.
He married Lilian M. Mullins in 1941 [Marriage Index: Birmingham 6d 772, 1941 (Dec)]. She was born around 1911.
They evidently separated. Electoral Registers for 1955 show that they were then living apart: Lilian was living at 51, Abingdon Road in the Stockland Green ward of Birmingham Aston; meanwhile Charles was living with a new partner Doris at 68, Rollason Road in the Erdington ward of Sutton Coldfield; Doris, whose maiden name is unknown, was born on June 28th 1920.
Lilian died aged "52" in 1963 [Death Index: Birmingham 9c 481, 1963 (June)] and Charles died aged "51" in 1969 [Death Index: Lichfield 9b 842, 1969 (Dec)]. His partner Doris, whom he never married, continued to live under the Woodhurst surname and died in 1996 [Death Index: Birmingham, 1996 (Nov) - DoB 20JE1920].
