Brief biography

Alfred (5) Woodhurst was born around the end of 1825 to parents William (1) Woodhurst and his wife Elizabeth Clements. He was christened by the incumbent Edward Irish of St. John's Church in Lower Clapton Road, Hackney on June 28th 1826 [Parish Register: LMA Film X043/003, Entry No. 1804]. His father is named as William - a labourer - and his mother as Elizabeth, and their place of abode is cited as Bay, Hackney. This street, which lay in the Dalston area of Hackney, no longer exists; it was situated where today's Holly Estate - developed around the 1960s - now stands.

He was buried aged 7 months at the same church, and by the same encumbent, on July 12th 1826 [Parish Register: LMA Film X089/096, Entry No. 514, Page 65]. The register again cites the family address as Bay, Hackney.
