Alfred (1) Woodhurst spent nearly forty years in various asylums. His periods there were charged to Bethnal Green Parish, overseen by its Board of Guardians. The details below have been transcribed from the Board's Register of Lunatics in Various Asylums for 1871-1915 [LMA: Piece BeB.G./289/2] held in the London Metropolitan Archives.

* This date, which is inaccurate by about 13 years, appears to have arisen from miscalculation by staff at Leavesden in 1910 when he was transferred there from Hanwell. His Hanwell files recorded an accurate age-on-admission of "49" in 1877. How a supposed birthyear of "1841" could have been conjured from these figures is anybody's guess.
* * This date is almost certainly that of his first-ever admission, not to Hanwell but to Hoxton House. His Hanwell files show that he was not transferred to Hanwell until July 1877.
