Turner William (1) Hogger was born to parents William (2) Hogger and his first wife Mary (nee) Turner. He was christened on January 8th 1789 at Lavenham [PR: Cosford DB].
He married Sarah (nee) Garwood on January 7th 1817 at Hasketon, near Playford [IGI: Batch M131621]. On February 12th 1817 he (described as a labourer) and Sarah were the subject of a Removal Order, from Playford to Clopton [National Archives: FC 22/G3/4].
His census entries suggest he was very uncertain of his age. He appears also to have been uncomfortable with his forename, being entered variously as "John" or "William" in some sources.
The 1841 Census finds him as "Turner" at (rounded) age "65" - probably a mistranscription of "55" - living with Sarah and two children in Playford where he was occupied as an agricultural labourer.
The 1851 Census finds him as "Turner" at age "66" still living there with Sarah and their daughter Ann (2). He was again occupied as an agricultural labourer. All three were described as paupers.
Sarah died in 1856 [Death Index: Woodbridge 4a 391, 1856 (March) - indexed as "Hoggar"].
The 1861 Census finds him as "John", widowed at age "78", living with Ann (2) in Playford and still occupied as an agricultural labourer.
He probably died aged "82" in 1867 [Death Index: Woodbridge 4a 389, 1867 (June) - indexed as "John"]. If this was him then his true age was at least 88.
Ann (2) was born on November 17th 1817 and was christened at Playford on January 25th 1818 [IGI: Batch C131632]. The latter source names her father as "John". The 1861 Census finds her still unmarried at age "43" living with her widowed father. She appears to have died aged "52" in 1868 [Death Index: Woodbridge 4a 433, 1868 (Dec)].
Robert (4) was born on March 12th 1826 and was christened at Playford on April 30th 1826 [IGI: Batch C131712]. The latter source names his father as "William". Nothing more is currently known of him.
