Thomas (8) Hogger was born to parents Bartholomew (2) Hogger and his wife Ann. He was christened on October 21st 1827 at Nowton [IGI: Batch C132402].
The 1841 Census finds him at age "13" living with his parents in Grundisburgh.
The 1851 Census finds him living with his parents in Grundisburgh, but gives his birthplace as Norton which lies about 9 miles NE of Nowton. No occupation is given for him.
In 1852 he married Mary Ann Hatcher [Marriage Index: Woodbridge 4a 1299, 1852 (Dec)]. They married at Grundisburgh on November 30th [IGI: Batch M013401]. She was born around 1826-27, apparently in either Debenham or Cambridge.
The 1861 Census finds him at age "32" living with Mary Ann and four children in Grundisburgh where he was occupied as a gardener. Her birthplace is given as Debenham.
The 1871 Census finds him at age "41" living with Mary Ann and two children at Grundisburgh Hall where he was occupied as a domestic gardener. Her birthplace is again given as Debenham. Also in his household as a visitor was his sister Ann (4) - entered as "Ann Copping" - and an Ursula Copping aged "9", born in Grundisburgh, who was probably her daughter.
The 1881 Census finds him at age "52" living with Mary Ann and one child in Grundisburgh where he was still occupied as a gardener. Her birthplace is here given as Cambridge.
The 1891 Census finds him at age "63" living with Mary Ann and one child in Grundisburgh where he was still occupied as a domestic gardener. Her birthplace is again given as Cambridge.
He appears to have died aged "65" in 1892 [Death Index: Woodbridge 4a 453, 1892 (Sept)]. It is not yet known where or when Mary Ann died.
Frederick (1) was christened as "Fred" at Grundisburgh on May 29th 1853 [IGI: Batch C013402]. He was with his parents as "Fredrick" in the 1861 Census. He died as "Fred" aged "16" in 1870 [Death Index: Woodbridge 4a 476, 1870 (March)].
George (6) was christened at Grundisburgh on July 27th 1856 [IGI: Batch C013402]. He was with his parents in the 1861 Census. He appears to have died in 1862 [Death Index: Woodbridge 4a 387, 1862 (Dec)].
Harry (3) was born at Grundisburgh Hall and was christened at Grundisburgh on November 15th 1857 [IGI: Batch C013402]. He was with his parents in the 1861 and 1871 Censuses. In 1871 he was occupied as a domestic gardener. The 1881 Census finds him lodging in the household of a widowed laundress Harriet Ellis at 14, Navarre Street in Ipswich St. Margaret where he was occupied as a gardener. Later in 1881 he married Sarah Ann Athroll/Eathroll [Marriage Index: Woodbridge 4a 1021, 1881 (June) - indexed as "Athroll"]. Sarah Ann was born at Playford [Birth Index: Woodbridge 4a 594, 1856 (June) - indexed as "Eathroll"]. The 1891 Census finds them living with two sons - Arthur Thomas (2) [Birth Index: Ipswich 4a 783, 1884 (March)] and William Harry (1) [Birth Index: Ipswich 4a 782, 1885 (Dec)] - at 14, Charles Street, Ipswich St. Margaret where Harry (3) was occupied as a bank porter. The 1901 Census finds the family with these two sons and also two daughters - Ethel Jane (1) [Birth Index: Ipswich 4a 843, 1891 (Dec)] and Florence Athroll (1) [Birth Index: Ipswich 4a 880, 1894 (Dec)] - living at 41, William Street, Ipswich St. Margaret where Harry (3) was occupied as a banker's messenger. He died aged "56" in 1914 [Death Index: Ipswich 4a 1231, 1914 (March)].
Sarah Ann (4) was christened at Grundisburgh on October 8th 1859 [IGI: Batch C013402]. She was with her parents in the 1861 Census but died shortly afterwards [Death Index: Woodbridge 4a 394, 1861 (June)].
Arthur Thomas (1) was christened at Grundisburgh on September 30th 1866 [IGI: Batch C013402]. He was with his parents in the 1871 and 1881 Censuses. In 1881 he was occupied as a gardener. In 1890 he married Charlotte Maria (or Eliza) Archer [Marriage Index: Woodbridge 4a 1667, 1890 (Dec)]. She was born at Charsfield (2 miles south of Hoo) in Suffolk around 1864 [Birth Index: Woodbridge 4a 658, 1864 (March) - indexed as "Charlotte Eliza"]. The 1891 Census finds them living at Park Cottage, next to Thomas (8), in Ipswich Road, Grundisburgh where he was occupied as a domestic gardener. The 1901 Census finds them with four children living at Gardener's Cottage in Grundisburgh where Arthur Thomas (1) was again occupied as a domestic gardener.
