Flora Kate (1) Hogger was born on February 6th 1868 at Groton, Suffolk to parents Benjamin (1) Hogger and his wife Georgianna Adelaide (nee) Golding [Birth Index: Cosford 4a 466, 1868 (March)].
The 1871 Census finds her at age "3" living with her parents in Groton.
The 1881 Census finds her at age "13" living with her parents in Groton.
The 1891 Census finds her at age "23" living at the Vicarage in Troston, Suffolk employed as a domestic cook for the incumbent Rector, Herbert C. Fowler. Troston lies about six miles north-east of Bury St. Edmunds.
In 1893 she married George Thomas [Marriage Index: Cosford 4a 1091, 1893 (Sept)]. He was born in Clyro, Breconshire on June 17th 1870.
Her first two children were born in Disserth, Radnorshire. It may be that George was working there at Pencerrig, a very substantial country house belonging to Clara Thomas, then the wealthiest lady in Wales. If so, it could explain why Flora's brother Albert George (1) left Groton in the late 1890s to work as a gardener at Pencerrig.
The 1901 Census finds her at age "33" living with her husband, three children and a boarder in the Gardener's House of Milford Lodge in Munslow, Shropshire where George was occupied as a domestic gardener.
The 1911 Census finds the family living at All Saints Gardens in Glasbury-on-Wye, Radnorshire, with Thomas occupied as a domestic gardener.
The 1939 Census finds her and George living at Womaston Lodge near Walton, Presteign in New Radnor RD, he being described as a retired gardener. There was no one else in the household.
Her nephew John Ernest George (1) Hogger met her once in his youth when he cycled with his father to the lodge in New Radnor, Radnorshire where she was then living - this belonging to a large house at which her husband was the head gardener - and recalled that she "had the merriest and most cheerful smile you ever saw" [SW].
She died aged "82" in 1950 [Death Index: Hay 8a 61, 1950 (Dec)]. George appears to have died aged "84" in 1955 [Death Index: either Hay 8a 83, 1955 (March) or Hay 8a 57, 1955 (Sept)]
