Michael (2) Harrison was born to parents Michael (1) Harrison and his wife Elizabeth (nee Smith), and was christened at Mapledurwell, Hampshire on December 28th 1817 [IGI: Batch I017228].
He has not yet been found in the 1841 Census and may well have eluded enumeration.
His future wife was Mary Dibley. The 1841 Census finds her aged "20" living in Mapledurwell with her father Daniel Dibley and her presumed grandfather James Dibley. Daniel may have first married to Sarah Rumble at Old Basing on November 16th 1816 [IGI: Batch M136531] and produced Mary by her, then may have remarried to Harriet Oliver at Nutley on November 4th 1826 [IGI: Batch A458855]. However this may be, Daniel was evidently widowed by 1841.
Michael (2) and Mary married in 1845 [Marriage Index: Basingstoke 7 91, 1845 (Sept)].
The 1851 Census finds them with two children living at 13, The Street in Mapledurwell where Michael (2) was occupied as an agricultural labourer. Also present was Mary's father Daniel aged "60", described as an agricultural labourer born in Mapledurwell.
Two of their sons appear to have died concurrently in 1857.
The 1861 Census finds them with five children living at a cottage in Mapledurwell where Michael (2) was again occupied as an agricultural labourer. Also present again was Mary's father Daniel aged "70" and still occupied as an agricultural labourer. Mary's birthplace is here given as Nately.
Mary died aged "49" in 1868 [Death Index: Basingstoke 2c 93, 1868 (June)].
The 1871 Census finds Michael (2) aged "52" and widowed, living with two of his daughters at a cottage in Mapledurwell and still occupied as an agricultural labourer.
Daniel Dibley died aged "84" in 1873 [Death Index: Basingstoke 2c 112, 1873 (June)].
In 1876 Michael (2) remarried to the widow Eliza of Charles Laney [Marriage Index: Basingstoke 2c 393, 1876 (Dec)]. Charles had died aged "52" in 1874 [Death Index: Basingstoke 2c 114, 1874 (Dec)] and appears to have married Eliza (nee) Cope at St. Thomas, Portsmouth on March 5th 1848 [IGI: Batch M062512 / Marriage Index: Portsea 7 223, 1848 (March)]. The 1851 Census finds Eliza living with Charles at 10, The Street in Mapledurwell and gives her age as "30" and her birthplace as Basingstoke.
The 1881 Census finds Michael (2) aged "63" living with Eliza at Yewtree Villa, Little Common in Mapledurwell where he was occupied as an agricultural labourer carter. Eliza is described as aged "60" and born in Basingstoke.
He died aged "66" in 1885 [Death Index: Basingstoke 2c 123, 1885 (June)].
It is not yet known where or when Eliza died.
James (2) was christened at Mapledurwell on May 8th 1846 [IGI: Batch I017228]. He died in 1857 [Death Index: Basingstoke 2c 107, 1857 (June)].
Daniel (1) was christened at Mapledurwell on April 29th 1855 [IGI: Batch I017228]. He died in 1857 [Death Index: Basingstoke 2c 109, 1857 (June)].
